Dr. Thomas Sholes, MD

Dr. Thomas Taylor Sholes MD is a third generation OBGYN who has been delivering babies and providing women’s health care for almost ten years in Athens, Georgia. He comes from a family of OBGYNs who have served the communities of East Tennessee and North Georgia for over 70 years. His grandfather and father were both OBGYNs who inspired him to follow their footsteps.

Dr. Sholes grew up in Gainesville, Georgia, and attended The Georgia Institute of Technology, where he studied Biology and Biomedical Engineering. Following undergraduate and medical school, Dr. Sholes did his OBGYN residency training at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta, Georgia. He is board certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology and a fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.

He is married and a proud father of five children: four girls and one boy. He loves spending time with his family and enjoys being outdoors.

Nancy Wilfong Tucker, WHNP

Nancy Tucker is a Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner who joined Sholes Center for Women’s Health in 2019. She has a wealth of experience and education in women’s health care, having worked for four years in a high-risk antepartum and postpartum obstetrical clinic in Nashville, Tennessee.

She grew up in Macon, Georgia, but now lives in Athens where her family (the Wilfongs) are from. She attended the University of Georgia, where she majored in Health Promotion and Behavior. She pursued her nursing degree at Georgia Baptist College of Nursing-Mercer University, graduating with honors and a receiving the Maternal-Fetal Medicine Outstanding Student Award. She advanced her education at Vanderbilt University School of Nursing, specializing as a Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner. Locally, Nancy is a volunteer at Mercy Health Center, a free clinic that provides healthcare to the underserved women of Athens, Georgia and surrounding counties.

Nancy is married and has two young children: a boy and a girl. She loves spending time with her family and friends and enjoys cheering on the Dawgs during football season. She is also an avid reader and likes to travel whenever she can.
