An endometrial ablation is the removal of a thin layer of tissue, the endometrium, from the uterus. This procedure is typically used as a treatment for excessive menstrual blood loss, unusually heavy periods, bleeding that last longer than eight days, or anemia from excessive blood loss. Endometrial ablations can dramatically reduce or end menstrual bleeding without the use of pills and hormones.

For example, if a woman finds herself experiencing hot flashes, her body may actually be responding to decreasing levels of estrogen.
